  7. Chinese Skullcap (baicalin) –baicalin, the compound found in it, is similar to ibuprofen in reducing pain (animal study from 2003);
  8. Olive oil – oleocanthal, the compound in olive oil, has anti-inflammatory properties comparable to ibuprofen;
  9. Combination of Vitamin C, Ginkgo biloba, and Astaxanthin – this combination is even more powerful than ibuprofen in reducing respiratory inflammation caused by asthma (animal study from 2011);
  10. Anthocyanin from Raspberries and Sweet Cherries – it’s equally effective in suppressing inflammation-associated enzyme known as cyclooxygenase-1 and -2 as naproxen and ibuprofen (a study from 2001).

You should also be aware that there are other therapeutic approaches you can opt for which do not ask for ingestion, aroma therapy, for example. We will start from the beginnings. The company G. D. Searle has developed this product at the first time. Still, the Food and Drug Administration which is a federal agency whose job is ensuring that the food and drugs are safe for us, didn’t approve their product.

Supposedly, the substance was applied on monkeys, in which later were appeared lesions, tumors, seizures and even some of them ended up dead.

The FDA has been rejecting the company’s applications for approval, but they insisted in presenting their own evidences that their product is not dangerous.

When FDA had it enough, they asked Department of Justice to charge G. D. Searle for presentation deceptive test information in their endeavor to get their product ratified. The FDA senior toxicologist Dr. Adrian Gross had something to say about this subject on the Congress: “Behind a shadow of a doubt aspartame stimulates brain tumors.”

Then G. D. Searle made Donald Rumsfeld its CEO. When Ronald Reagan became a president, he included Rumsfeld in his team, and then another FDA commissioner was chosen immediately.

The unnatural sweetener created by the company Donald Rumsfeld was leading, over the objections of the FDA scientific board, was ratified in one of the first acts of the new FDA commissioner.

Also, when it seemed like aspartame will be ratified later on for use in carbonated drinks, the National Soft Drink Association disagreed with this act, claiming that it wouldn’t be safe for people because aspartame is very unsteady when in liquid form and decomposes into formaldehyde, amidst other things.

G.D. Searle was bought in 1985 by Monsanto, and the NutraSweet Company functioned as a part of Monsanto until 2000, and then Monsanto has been sold to J.W. Childs Equity Partners, where it remains today.

Meanwhile, the FDA has composed a list of 92 symptoms related with aspartame consummation. Blindness, deafness, sickness, dizziness, weight gain and even death, are all included in this list. Anyway, aspartame still can be found in the markets, included in more products.

Aspartame Resource Center (www.aboutaspartame.com) claims that aspartame is found in over 6.000 products around the world. You can find some “cheerful” information about the safety of aspartame. Ironically, they even have a part labeled as “Meet the doctors,” where you can read a list of their medical advisory board.

In the medical advisory part, you can read the ARC saying: “The Aspartame Information Center Expert Medical Advisory Board was made to help guide the Center’s communications to health professionals and the public about aspartame gains, safety and role in a healthy diet. The board members are giving counsel on present medical and nutrition science, as well as preview on tools that help address the demands of health professionals in their work. Their backgrounds are covering critical areas of medicine and science, and each has unique experience in health and nutrition.”

Does it sound to you like they don’t really know they are? This “Aspartame Information Center”, what is this? I checked the site(www.aspartame.org) and I saw a pretty large list of “experts”, who are a tool for backing up claims that aspartame is safe, including the Calorie Control Council. As a matter of fact, the Calorie Control Center possesses the Aspartame Information Center site, and you can also read on the bottom that it is listed as a copyright holder.

The Aspartame Resource Center promotes all kinds of “fact” lists that you can download, especially the one called “Straight Answers about Aspartame.” This list is created by the American Dietetic Association and the Calorie Control Council. At the bottom of the fact list you can see that it has been sponsored by aspartame.org. The fact is that the Aspartame Information Center, the Aspartame Resource Center and Ajinomoto are all the same and are considered as the biggest producers of aspartame worldwide.

There is a question- who owns the Calorie Control Council? In its site www.caloriecontrol.org you can read that the Calorie Control Council is founded in 1966 and it stand for 60 producers and suppliers of low-calorie, low-fat and light foods and drinks, where more than 10 different producers and suppliers of dietary sweeteners are included.

If you go deeper you will find another site related to the Calorie Control Council. It is called Calories Count and you can visit it at www.caloriescount.com, where you can see that it is sponsored by Ajinomoto, NutraSweet, Splenda and Sweet ‘N Low. To summarize, the FDA claimed that aspartame was harmful, and they didn’t want to ratify it. But, when the new president and his associate appointed new head of the FDA, the aspartame was immediately ratified after 16 years of being rejected. It is a little bit strange, isn’t it?
